Welcome family and friends!
THE NEW WHITTY NUTRITION IS HERE!
So I've been keeping a pretty tight lid on all the behind-the-scenes action that has been going on at the WHITTY NUTRITION HQ these past several months and it's time to let you in on the excitement!
It's been a wild ride the past year (particularly the past 3 - 4 months) and a lot of changes have led me to this point. I'll try to keep this post brief and just give you the highlights - here goes nothin!
For the past year or so I was working full time in a job that I knew wasn't right for me. I pretty much knew this undeniable fact from the beginning, but an opportunity knocked and as a new professional looking to save some coin to invest back into my business who was I to say no?
The hubster and I talked long and hard about whether or not I should accept said job, around the 3rd time they asked, and we agreed that it might be the right move "for now," as long as I could continue to grow WHITTY NUTRITION in the background. I had full intentions to do so, tons of motivation, and tried to muster as much energy as I could to juggle everything all at once but it wasn't long before the never-ending work days, constantly being on call, and trying to balance 3 separate jobs as an RD, that I found myself exhausted, unhappy, and investing all my time and energy into a job that I knew I wasn't in for the long haul.
So as us type-A personalities do, I started stressing about how to get out of this situation before WHITTY NUTRITION no longer had any momentum and I would have to start all over again. I wasn't doing much with my social media and especially not this blog during this time, but I was continuing to see clients in the evenings and on weekends, however I knew this wasn't sustainable nor the best way to grow my business that I worked so hard to get off the ground.
Enter God - who always shows me the way and knocks with unexpected opportunity. Usually he has to knock me right over 'cause I'm not always the best listener, but this time my eyes were open and my ears were alert. A way to get out of my current situation emerged. One that allowed me to maintain some financial stability, offered up enough risk to make the change exciting, and led me to the right people and places to start really living out my dream.
So what's the DL on my current situation?
Well, I've obtained what I can only describe as my dream job working part-time in a personal care home where I get to work with an amazing staff doing clinical nutrition with my favorite population - seniors. This position also allows me the great joy of being a resource to other dietitians in the health region where I work, and gives me the chance to do staff education and develop and implement nutrition policies that result in real, tangible change in clinical nutrition practice. This is the stuff RD dreams are made of people! haha
What this part-time position also allows is real, scheduled time allotted strictly for private practice work which is something I've never really had before. I thought long and hard about my business plan and what type of work I really wanted to be doing as a consulting RD, which is where my the other half of my heart lies - professionally speaking.
For a long time I ran my private practice 100% solo - an independence that seems great, but can be very lonely, time-consuming, and isolating from the rest of the RD private practice world. It was time to get out there and Make. Things. Happen!!
I took a leap of faith and contacted one of my previous mentors, Susan Watson, someone who I had recently re-connected with through of my one current mentors and asked her if she knew of any opportunities that might help me grow my private practice, particularly if she knew of any affordable office space that might be available for me to rent or projects that WHITTY NUTRITION might be able to take on. Enter God again - she just so happened to have such an opportunity and immediately expressed her excitement at the possibility of us collaborating!
Now this was very exciting to me as I really admire the work that Susan does with her business A Little Nutrition, and knew that when it comes to private practice she is a total guru!
So after months of discussions, negotiations, contracts, office tours, brain-storming, and thoughtful consideration, I am pleased to announce that WHITTY NUTRITION will now be collaborating with A Little Nutrition to bring you some of the following exciting additions to WHITTY NUTRITION:
