Happy .... er... um.... Thursday?
It's been a crazy week - well month, and I've been losing track of what day it is for a while now! That's the blessing and the curse of working for yourself. You get to work when you want but sometimes that means All. The. Time. and so it's hard to know if it's a weekday, weekend, day or night sometimes!
Sorry I missed the Monday deadline this week but I had a few minutes so I thought I would quickly share with you a recipe I often make in busy times, like the past few weeks have been! Now, not everyone likes salad. In fact, I know quite a few people that hate it. Not this salad though... pasta salad is one of my favorite things ever. It's got everything you need - carbs, protein, healthy fat, and it can be altered to suit anyone's taste. I make many variations of this based on whatever I have in the house, so the recipe I provided here is the most basic version of my pasta salad but don't let that limit you! If my husband takes this to work he'll often throw in a can of tuna or chicken for some extra protein, sometimes I'll toss in a can of beans to make use of the goodness of meat alternatives, and you can even add lentils, or other vegetables depending on what you like.
The best things about this recipe are that it can be customized, can fit your budget, and is delicious and nutritious at the same time! Follow these simple steps and you'll have dinner and lunches for days ... did I mention the longer this salad marinates in the homemade dressing the better it tastes?!

Finding reliable nutrition information on the world wide web can be a challenge. In fact, you may be reading information that you THINK is legit but isn't backed by any credible resource or is sensationalized by the media to send a misleading message. Your first, foremost, and most reliable source of nutrition information is going to come from a registered dietitian. Registered dietitians are health professionals that are licensed to give advice on food and nutrition that is individualized for YOU! We are trusted experts that help make medical and nutrition research easier to understand and can provide information that you know is safe and based on the best available scientific research. Now that being said, not everyone has a live-in dietitian or easy access to one at a moment's notice to answer those burning nutrition questions. In fact, access to dietitians is a major problem in Canada and some of the largest health care plans do not currently cover our services. Seeing a private practice dietitian out of pocket can be expensive because you are paying not only for the actual meeting time, resources, and individualized advice, but also for the time it takes to research, create a plan, maintain office space, and keep an up-to-date license. There is much evidence to support that the services of a registered dietitian can help lower health care costs, improve the quality of life and reduce disease risk for individuals that receive appropriate counselling from a qualified individual. All of which make it absolutely inexcusable for health care plans to cover services such as chiropractors, naturopaths, and massage therapists but neglect to include coverage for this useful, and quite frankly essential health care service.

One thing you can and SHOULD do is sign this petition that was created by the Dietitians of Canada Consulting Network that is in support of ensuring that registered dietitians are covered under Canada's Public Service Health Care Plan.
It takes less than a minute and we still need about 5,000 signatures.
